How your mobile betrays who you really are

Caught being unfaithful by phone

We’ve all seen the old films and TV shows where the woman questions the man about the lipstick on his shirt collar, the smell of a woman’s perfume or a mysterious receipt for an item they haven’t received. But in this era of advanced modern technology none of that is necessary any more, with ‘going through mobile phone’ ranking at the top of a recent poll citing how affairs were exposed.

The survey, which was included on a mobile phone insurance website, asked users who had either been caught being unfaithful or had found that their partner was, how the infidelity came to light. Nearly 2,400 adults in the UK completed the survey with nearly half (41%) saying going through their partners mobile phone was how the affair was discovered.

It seems technology is a disaster for those who are unfaithful in relationships, with the second highest result in the survey being via social networking websites such as Facebook at 23% and going through files on a computer, laptop or tablet ranking third at 13%. Traditional methods ranked further down the list with a mere 11% tracing their partner’s tracks to catch them in the act and just 5% being told by a family member or friend about the affair. Only 2% of the people responsible for the infidelity confessed to their partners.

Of course, the actual infidelity is nothing new, and we have over 35 years’ experience in the investigation industry, helping people to catch their partners being unfaithful.
